Teachers confirm LifeSavers increases the quality of financial education in classrooms

Teachers across the UK have increased their confidence and skills in delivering financial education thanks to JFF’s LifeSavers programme, according to a recent report from external evaluators Public Perspective.

LifeSavers is a free financial education programme for primary schools, providing a wide range of curriculum-linked classroom resources and practical activities to engage children with money from a young age. We know that money lessons are best taught by the people children trust. That’s why we work directly with teachers, providing the training, resources and confidence they need to embed financial education in their classrooms.

This evaluation demonstrates that LifeSavers has a positive impact on teachers, children, and the wider school community. Teachers said that the training and resources provided helped them embed money lessons in the school curriculum, which has a positive impact in terms of financial education and wider learning outcomes. Children agreed, saying that they have more knowledge about money and feel more confident using money than before participating in LifeSavers.

One participating teacher said, "LifeSavers is a high-quality programme with great and easy to use resources that are very relevant for our school, pupils and their families, especially with the cost-of-living. It’s now part of our school life and something we’re committed to. We did look at other programmes, but LifeSavers seemed the best with its value-based approach, flexibility, well-developed resources that links to the curriculum, and support, and it helped that it was free!”

Developed in consultation with education experts, the LifeSavers resources align with the national curriculum and focus on improving numeracy and critical thinking, as well as key money concepts. Created by teachers for teachers, we keep expanding our resources to support schools and reach more children of all backgrounds and abilities. These resources include cross-curricular activities for Maths, PHSE, English and Drama, and innovative research projects dedicated to making financial education accessible to more children.

Since 2019, LifeSavers has supported 139 primary schools across the UK, helping 13,432 children to access quality financial education.
