What Would You Do If I Gave You £15 Right Now?

What would you do if we gave you £15 right now?

Treat yourself? Save it for a rainy day? Invest it? Give it to a loved one?

What would you have done with £15 when you were younger?

Would this be any different?

Through our LifeSavers financial education programme, children across 21 schools in the North East are learning how to use their money wisely. LifeSavers equips children with the knowledge and practical experience, through our Savings Clubs, to build healthy financial habits and prepare them for the financial decisions they will have to make in later life.

So, you’d be surprised at the answers our LifeSavers children give to ‘What would you do if we gave you £15?’ (check out the video)!

Why the North East?

The North East is a target region for LifeSavers for a number of reasons. It is a region which frequently scores highly on measures of deprivation and child poverty. It is also an area which is preyed upon by high cost credit providers, whilst having the highest regional levels of insolvency in England (The Insolvency Service 2017). It has the second highest amount of short-term, high cost credit loans taken out (118 loans per 1,000 people) per region (FCA 2018), a form of lending which is often a fast-track to poverty and insolvency. It even had Wonga, a lender which offered short-term loans at an annual percentage rate of 4,214%, sponsor the shirt of the biggest football team in the region (Newcastle United)* for 4 seasons.

Therefore, to give the next generation the best possible chance to navigate the injustices of the financial climate they are entering: we are Crowdfunding to expand to a new school in the North East as part of the AVIVA Community Fund campaign.

A donation to our Crowdfunder supports the delivery of financial education to pupils in the North East.

On average, just a £15 donation, would transform into £102 saved over the course of a single year by one of our pupils at our Savings Clubs!
